Infinity Mining has secured a five-year licence extension for its Strelley Gorge project in the Pilbara that is considered prospective for volcanic-hosted massive sulphide-style copper-zinc mineralisation.
Just last year the company completed a helicopter electromagnetic survey across the site with initial data showing several conductive targets with follow-up testing now being planned.
The results of the survey are currently being interpreted by specialist geophysical consultants NEWEXCO. The final results will be used to define targets for the 2023 exploration program.
Strelley Gorge sits within shouting distance of the company’s nearby Sulphur Springs and Kangaroo Caves projects. Sulphur Springs holds 17.4 million tonnes at 1.3 per cent copper, 4.2 per cent zinc and 17 grams per tonne silver, while the Kangaroo Caves deposit hosts 3.55 million tonnes at 6 per cent zinc, 0.77 per cent copper and 15.2g/t silver.
Infinity Mining chief executive officer Joe Groot said: “Infinity’s early exploration programs at Strelley Gorge provided us with sufficient encouragement to invest in a helicopter-borne EM (VTEM Max) survey, which was flown late in 2022. The goal is to identify a series of new conductor targets, then test the best targets for VHMS-style Cu-Zn sulphide mineralisation.”
The company has been busy shoring up its Pilbara operations this year. In February the explorer locked in five-year licence extensions to key tenements at its Hillside, Tambourah South and Panorama projects.
Infinity is planning an exploration blitz across its Pilbara holdings this year including the launch of a new survey technique at its Tambourah South lithium project that uses real-time data processing to model a 3D map of the underlying geology of the site. The Ambient Noise Tomography survey technology allows the explorer to map in 3D down to several hundred metres where lithium, caesium and tantalum-rich pegmatites identified at surface have grown at depth.
Just last month the company identified a host of valuable minerals from reconnaissance rock chip sampling at its Hillside project to the south-east of Strelley Gorge including anomalous results for copper, molybdenum, gold and silver.
Samples returned values of up to 4539 parts-per-million copper, 1198ppm molybdenum, 0.68 grams per tonne gold and 14 g/t silver. The exploration program also identified a partially covered copper-stained quartz vein in granite on the western side of the operation over around 170m.
The company is also currently eyeing drill targets at its Hillside and Panorama tenements in the Pilbara after kicking off a cultural heritage survey with the Nyamal Native Title Group at the two exploration licences.
Infinity has engaged Heritage WA and the Nyamal traditional owners group in a bid to seek clearance for heavy equipment access and pad clearing. Program of works applications have also been lodged with the WA Department of Mining, Industry Regulation and Safety for drilling approval.
