Perth data transcription and duplication company SpectrumData is poised for further growth after recently being awarded ongoing contracts in the petroleum industry
The private company, which is based at Technology Park, recently secured contracts with Woodside, TGS-NOPEC, and Apache Energy for the provision of seismic and well-log transcription, duplication, and archiving services.
Spectrum’s principal focus is in the private petroleum and minerals industries where there is considerable need for large-capacity storage of data arising from exploration activities.
But the group has also found work in the government sector, including a $1 million, three-year contract it has now completed with the Japanese Government Commission for Oil, Gas, Minerals and Energy, as well as a multi-million dollar contract with GeoScience Australia awarded earlier this year. The latter, to remaster a collection of petroleum and geo-scientific data, is the largest of its kind awarded in Australia, according to Spectrum chief executive Guy Holmes.
Spectrum is considered the third-largest data services company in the world, with operations in over 48 countries, and Mr Holmes sees huge growth opportunities in South-East Asia.
“We know there are about one million tapes in Indonesia, it’s just a matter of time before the government there organises that,” Mr Holmes said.
And there’s also potential in the banking, finance and telecommunications industries, where data logging is an integral part of business.
Mr Holmes did not deny the company could be headed for public float, revealing to WA Business News he is in the process of “actively pursuing growth opportunities”.
“I’ll be presenting on a road-show to various people in September,” he said.
