BHP Group is a Melbourne-based global resources company. It is among the world’s largest producers of major commodities including aluminium, coal, copper, iron ore, manganese, nickel, silver and uranium, and has substantial interests in oil and gas.

Broken Hill Proprietary’s history began in a silver, lead and zinc mine in Broken Hill, Australia. BHP has been mining iron ore in the Pilbara since 1968, and had commenced mining at Koolan and Cockatoo Islands in the 1940s.

BHP merged with London-listed company Billiton in 2001.
