Mike Henry has over 30 years of experience in the global mining and petroleum industry; spanning operational, commercial, safety, technology and marketing roles. Mr Henry joined BHP in 2003, initially in business development and then in marketing and trading of a range of mineral and petroleum commodities based in The Hague, where he was also accountable for BHP’s ocean freight operations. He became a member of the executive leadership team in 2011 and held various positions including as president of coal; president of HSE, marketing and technology; and as chief marketing officer. In 2016, he took responsibility for the group's Australian minerals business. Mr Henry became chief executive of BHP in January 2020.
Prior to joining BHP, Mr Henry worked in the resources industry in Canada, Japan and Australia.
He was appointed as a board member of the Business Council of Australia in November 2021.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) from the University of British Columbia, and is vice chair of the Minerals Council of Australia.
