Superior Resources has intersected sulphide mineralisation in its third consecutive drill hole targeting a large, induced polarisation anomaly at the company’s Bottletree Copper prospect within its Greenvale project in Queensland. The company believes it may be onto a potential porphyry system west of the induced polarisation anomaly indicated by an enormous 1.5 kilometre by 1km intense copper and gold soil anomaly coincident with a large magnetic feature.
The third diamond hole of a three-hole program is now complete reaching a final downhole depth of 659 metres. The third diamond hole was drilled eastwards from the western side of the induced polarisation anomaly and intersected numerous visually observed copper-mineralised vein sets including disseminated copper over most of the hole.
Deeper drilling was required in the third drillhole that tested for porphyry related mineralisation to the west of the anomaly rather than testing the induced polarisation anomaly directly, which was the case with the first two diamond holes.
The strongest copper mineralisation intersected in the third diamond hole occurred over a 200m interval approximately 200m vertically above where strong copper mineralisation was encountered at the bottom of the first hole.
Encouragingly, strong copper sulphide mineralisation observed in the third drill hole occurred primarily outside of the chargeability anomaly providing Superior with greater confidence of a more significant system than originally anticipated.
Mineralisation remains open towards the porphyry target to the west as well as at depth.
A high-grade copper mineralised vein system trending sub parallel to the first two drill holes was also targeted by the third diamond drillhole. The third drillhole is a “scissor” hole which means it is drilled perpendicular to the orientation and dip of the first two diamond holes.
Drilling conducted at the Bottletree prospect during 2018 intersected the northern edge of the induced polarisation anomaly and returned an uber wide 292m mineralised envelope grading 0.22 per cent copper including 18.7m going 1.12 per cent copper.
Superior Resources’ Managing Director, Peter Hwang said:
“Although the primary target at Bottletree is a large, interpreted copper-gold porphyry system located 500 metres west of the chargeability anomaly, the amount of copper sulphide mineralisation associated with the chargeability anomaly is, nevertheless, shaping up to be very significant.”
“The next program at Bottletree, aimed for the end of Q1, 2022, will be extensive and will target the interpreted porphyry system and the ‘satellite’ copper zones, including further drilling at the copper zone associated with the chargeability anomaly. To assist with designing the drilling program, a recently completed multi-element soil geochemical survey over the entire prospect area will provide modern geochemical vectoring tools. We will also be conducting a down-hole EM survey on BTDD003 and detailed analysis of airborne magnetic survey data and other geophysical data.”
Superior plans to start the next drill program at the end of the first quarter of 2022 that will refine targets at the copper zone within the Bottletree project.
With an enormous amount of assay data expected back from drilling and soil sampling at the Bottletree project, Superior look to be in an enviable position following wide zones of strong visible sulphide mineralisation.
