Sally Malay Mining to change name

Shareholders in Perth-based nickel producer Sally Malay Mining Ltd have voted to change the company's name to Panoramic Resources Ltd at a general meeting today.

The name change comes in the wake of an Indigenous family launching court action against the company.

The company's name and its namesake project are also the name of a deceased Aboriginal stockman.

In Aboriginal culture, the mentioning of a deceased person's name is forbidden.

It is understood that the deceased stockman's daughter, Maria Malay, has been fighting to have the name changed and is seeking compensation for personal distress.

It is not known when the company's name change to Panoramic will take place.
