ASX-listed explorer Infinity Mining’s Craig’s Rest project in the Leonora district of Western Australia is already looking the goods with a recent rock chip sampling program delivering grades as high as 37.64 grams per tonne gold. The samples were bagged in proximity to several historical mines and returned six specimens running over 1 g/t gold.
The company is now eying a raft of new activity at the site including auger, aircore and RC drilling.
Infinity initially sought out the samples to confirm the presence of gold around the site’s legacy workings. The activity saw the company sweep up 47 rock chip samples across the project’s Garden Well, Katalina and Craig prospects.
The company argues the six samples running over 1 g/t gold along with the monster 37.64 g/t gold specimen all but confirm a high-grade precious metal tenor in the area.
Infinity Mining’s CEO, Joe Groot said:“The high gold grades from rock samples at Craig’s Rest is very encouraging. I am looking forward to testing a range of structural targets at Craig’s Rest later in 2022.”
Several small-scale mining operations once occupied the zone now known as Craig’s Rest in the late 1800s which prompted Infinity to run the rule over the historically fruitful terrain.
According to WABMINES & MINEDEX – two of the WA state government’s mining databases – a total of 85 mine shafts, adits and open-pits mines are located between Infinity’s Garden Well, Katalina and Craig prospects.
Management says a review of the legacy data indicates the project’s precious metal bounty is concentrated within steeply dipping quartz reefs and stringer zones located inside shear zones.
Infinity now plans to drill test the project’s structural target zones for shear-hosted gold mineralisation using a suite of rigs.
Craig’s Rest sits about 250 km from Kalgoorlie and takes in a raft of potentially mineral-bearing outcrops covered by thick soil and alluvial material zones. The project forms a fragment of the company’s Central Goldfields portfolio that includes eight assets in the productive Leonora gold district – an area known for its magnitude of shear-hosted gold systems.
Infinity is running a similar play at its proximal Chicago gold project where the explorer recently unveiled a pair of compelling magnetic targets adjacent to historical gold workings via a geophysical and rock chip sampling surveys.
The anomalous rock chips at Chicago graded up to 2.37 g/t gold and has spurred Infinity to plan a round of RC drilling at the operation – adding to an end of year set list that could also see it plunge a few holes at Craig’s Rest.
