Oar Resources has kick started a maiden diamond drilling campaign at its Douglas Canyon gold project in Nevada, USA. The company has initiated a four-hole, 1000m program targeting near-surface mineralisation in the first two holes and testing down dip depth extensions with the latter two holes. Results from previous rock chip samples at the project include grades as high as 18 grams per tonne gold and 398 g/t silver.
Oar says it expects drilling to be completed by month's end.
Other notable results from previous rock chip sampling programs are 16.2 g/t gold with 495 g/t silver and 14 g/t gold with 423 g/t silver from exploration around outcropping high-grade gold-silver epithermal veins.
The company will look to build on these results, targeting the same outcropping veins that delivered solid precious metal hits in its latest round of drilling.
Oar General Manager of Geology, Tony Greenaway said: “We are delighted to commence our maiden drill program at the high-grade Douglas Canyon Gold Project in Nevada. This first phase of drilling will be a diamond drilling program comprising four holes for approximately 1,000m, targeting stand-out targets within the project area.”
“Based on the exceptional high-grade results delivered in our outcrop sampling program, and the Project’s location in the prolific Walker Lane district of Nevada, we see the Douglas Canyon Project as an exciting gold exploration opportunity, and we are excited by the potential of the program to deliver some strong gold intersections.”
Oar’s Douglas Canyon project is gently nestled in the lucrative Walker Lane gold-silver district in southern Nevada. The area is considered prime real estate by those in the know and is distinguished by its abundant occurrences of volcanic-hosted epithermal gold and silver deposits.
Remarkably, Oar’s Douglas Canyon project in Nevada is bound by around 20 historic mines that form something of an ode to the area’s remarkable potential.
Recent exploration by other companies has delivered similarly promising results with eight major gold projects discovered within an approximate 50-kilometre range.
Fresh drilling results from Fortitude Gold Corporation’s East Camp Douglas mine around 5km south, saw an impressive intercept of 22.86m going 13.55 g/t gold. Other notable results from neighbouring mines include a 6.7m hit going 38.57 g/t gold courtesy of Newrange Gold Corporation’s Pamlico gold mine.
Some of the longer intersections from exploration in the area included a 36.6m section going 10.26 g/t gold from Fortitude Gold Corporation’s Golden Mile mine.
Meanwhile, closer to home, the Perth-based company looks to be amassing a suite of promising prospects, including its Gibraltar kaolin and halloysite project in South Australia and a platinum group element, nickel and copper project in Western Australia.
With strong historical production and a recent spate of high-grade gold results near the Douglas Canyon gold project, Oar will no doubt be hoping its maiden diamond drilling campaign will deliver promising results and eke out its own piece of Nevada’s treasure trove of high-grade gold. With drilling results expected by months end things could get interesting quickly for Oar Resources.
