King River Resources has returned high-grade results from RC drilling at its Tennant Creek gold project in the Northern Territory, including one hole recording a one metre intersection going 35.26 grams per tonne.
A total of 34 holes were drilled at the project’s Kurundi Main prospect where rock chip samples returned multiple results between 10 and 17g/t gold along a previously undrilled 2km trend.
King River says drilling intersected 1m to 5m quartz vein within a broader shear structure.
The high-grade results feature one 7m section going 6.35g/t gold from 25m, including 2m at 21.3g/t with 1m grading 35.26g/t gold.
Another highlight was a 6m intercept going 4.77g/t gold, including 3m running 9.28g/t with 1m at 14.76g/t gold, whilst a nearby 5m intersection recorded 3.84g/t from 22m including 2m at 7.82g/t with 1m grading 9.99g/t gold.
King River says the vein remains open to the north, south and at depth, with the deepest hole intersecting mineralisation. The best results came from drilling near the main workings.
The assays were priority samples selected from visually mineralised intervals in 14 holes. Results are still pending for the remaining 20 holes.
King River is planning further drilling that will test for extensions to its main zone. The next campaign will also test north and south of its main workings, including depth extensions.
The company says it hopes the next phase of drilling will extend its current zones and discover new mineralised zones at depth and along strike.
King River holds about 7900 square kilometres across 16 tenements in the Northern Territory.
According to the company, its tenure shows stratigraphic and structural similarities to the celebrated Tennant Creek and Rover gold fields.
Gold mining in the region dates back to the 1930s. Tennant Creek gold fields have produced about 5.5 million ounces of gold over the years.
Kurundi has previously been identified as a priority for King River where sparsely explored tenements with historic high-grade copper-gold mineralisation have been identified.
This area is close to historic workings and outcropping ironstone trends.
Whilst the exploration is in early days, the numbers may have caused a few ears to prick up, if King River can get Tennant Creek to anywhere near its former glory then there could be plenty more news flow to come.
