Business News will expand its coverage of state politics in 2023 and base a journalist at Parliament House for the first time in the organisation's history.
Over the past three years, Western Australia's leading business publication has undergone a rapid expansion by investing in its editorial department and providing a comprehensive breaking news service that gives readers all the important business news as it happens. In fact, we have doubled the number of journalists on the team and won international awards for our coverage.
The long-running Business News print magazine has also been reimagined, now focusing on features, profiles and deep dives that provide the context required by those who make the tough decisions in business. It won the ‘Best in Show’ award for most improved publication at this year's Alliance of Area Business Publishers awards in the US.
There will be a renewed focus on politics in WA next year, as the McGowan government enters the second half of its four-year term and the Liberal Party attempts to rebuild from perhaps its lowest ebb.
Reporter Jordan Murray will work from state parliament, bringing our readers the latest news and analysis from those who shape the state's future.
And he will be supported by our experienced team of journalists, based in the heart of the business district on St Georges Terrace, including senior editors Mark Beyer and Mark Pownall, both of whom have spent more than 20 years in senior roles at Business News.
Claire Tyrrell (property), Matt McKenzie (oil and gas, energy), Simone Grogan (breaking news, courts), Nadia Budihardjo (local government), and Liv Declerck (community and arts) round out the reporting team, with talented photographer David Henry ensuring our products retain a premium look. Further editorial appointments will be made in the coming weeks, with at least two journalists to be added.
All of this means more content for our subscribers.
Over the past few years, we have increased the size of our magazine, added several special publications (including the hugely successful Power 500 and the recent magazine on business in Karratha), launched a daily podcast (which also won an international award), and beefed up the data offerings that so many subscribers rely on for their business development.
We have also continued our long-running annual Book of Lists publication, which will be in mailboxes in mid-January.
Business News has also grown its events business, hosting breakfasts featuring speakers including Wesfarmers boss Rob Scott, Fortescue's Elizabeth Gaines, CBH chief Ben MacNamara, South32's Graham Kerr, Pilbara Minerals' Dale Henderson, Minderoo's Nicola Forrest, Premier Mark McGowan, current OECD chief Mathias Cormann, and Deputy Premier Roger Cook.
Next year will bring with it further improvements and additions to the Business News suite of products, with our investment in quality journalism ensuring our readers are both first to know and most informed.
