Buru Energy managing director Keiran Wulff announced his resignation today as the oil and gas exploration firm appointed two new non-exececutive directors to the board.

Mr Wulff's duties have been assumed by executive chairman Eric Streitberg.

Downer EDI and Mermaid Marine Australia director Eve Howell and Challenger Energy managing director Robert Willes have been appointed to board positions that had previously been vacant.

Both Ms Howell and Mr Willes had previously served in senior roles in Woodside and BP respectively.

Mr Streitberg said the company appreciated Mr Wulff’s leadership, and he welcomed the new appointments.

“Their background and experience make them extremely valuable additions to Buru’s board as we move forward with the commercialisation of our Canning Basin assets,” he said.

“We also anticipate the appointment of further independent directors as we continue to restructure our board for the future.”

The changes follow the resignation of former chairman Graham Riley in May, on the same day 72 per cent of voters at the annual meeting opposed the company’s remuneration report.

Business News reported last week that a group of Kimberley traditional owners had agreed to allow Buru to start fracking in the Canning Basin, after Environment Minister Albert Jacob gave it the green light earlier this month.
