BMG Resources has extended the mineralised footprint of its Abercromby gold project near Wiluna out to 1.3km after receiving assay results from the company’s recent diamond drilling campaign.
Assay highlights include a 5.56m hit at 3.5 grams per tonne gold from 400m whilst a second hole recorded a 6m intercept going 2.79 g/t gold from 171m.
A third hole returned two significant hits including one 8.45m section reading 3.46 g/t gold from 414.5m with another shallower 13m intercept recorded 2.3 g/t gold from 317m.
The explorer says extensional drilling delivered wide intercepts of gold mineralisation with one section up to 90m thick. The 90m hit recorded 0.6 g/t gold from 250m including a 9m section at 1.81 g/t from 303m. An additional 60m intercept going 0.66 g/t gold from 244m including 6.6m at 2.32 g/t gold from 272.7m was another highlight.
BMG believes the wide intercepts were from zones below and along strike of the existing mineralised footprint at the project.
The seven-hole 3989m program was completed in September and aimed to further define the resource at the company’s Capital prospect in addition to infill and extensional drilling.
The company says the latest results have significantly added to the mineralised zone at Capital that still remains open at depth and along strike. A mineral system to the south of Capital has also been confirmed by infill and extensional drilling with the East and West lodes remaining open.
BMG Resources Managing Director, Bruce McCracken said: “Importantly, the target zone of mineralisation through the weathering profile has been extended with potential for further significant expansion to the south where air-core drill results have highlighted a broad area of gold anomalism that is prospective for more near-surface oxide material.”
BMG’s wholly owned Abercromby project sits on the renowned Wiluna greenstone belt where more than 40 million gold ounces have been defined since the precious metal was discovered in the late 1800s.
The area takes in a number of notable operations including Bellevue Gold’s three-million-ounce namesake discovery grading a dazzling 9.9 g/t gold. Abercromby is about 100km north of Bellevue and straddles the same greenstone belt.
Results from a previous campaign include a 31m hit at 6.18 g/t gold from 162m including 1m at a head-turning 181.94 g/t gold from 191m. The 31m hit was housed within an even longer 77m intersection running 2.99 g/t gold from 116m.
The earlier diamond program also plunged a 660m hole beneath the Capital prospect’s main target zone and intercepted a 38m section going 0.5 g/t gold from 309m and 2.55m grading 1.64 g/t from 633m. BMG says the pair of strikes underline the operation’s potential at depth.
BMG says planning for its next drilling campaign is underway in addition to metallurgical test work to better understand potential gold recovery methods.
