Xolani Mkhwanazi
Dr Xolani Mkhwanazi was the president and chief operating officer of South Africa Aluminium with BHP Billiton. He was also chair of BHP Billiton in South Africa from 2009 to 2015. Dr Mkhwanazi was chief executive of Bateman Africa and the National Electricity Regulator. Prior to that, he held senior positions at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research where he played a key role in the formulation of the South African National Science and Technology Policy.
Early in his career, Dr Mkhwanazi was a senior scientist at the Atomic Energy Corporation and Head of the Physics Department at the University of Swaziland.
Dr Mkhwanazi passed away in January 2020, following a short illness.
