Dr Susan Vearncombe is an experienced explorationist, having worked in research organisations and as a consultant. She is a geologist with more than 25 years of experience in the mining/exploration industry and has worked internationally in Australasia, Africa, Indonesia, North and South America, and Europe on a range of geological environments and mineralised systems.
Dr Vearncombe has published in the areas of petrogenesis, structural geology and regional tectonics, kimberlites, volcanogenic massive sulphide and gold systems, and spatial analysis.
She was managing director of Silver Swan Group, a gold and base metals exploration company with projects in Spain and Western Australia from April 2008 to November 2012, and was responsible for the discovery of the Austin copper-zinc deposit in the Murchison Province of Western Australia and a move into the Iberian Peninsula (Spain & Portugal). Prior to 2008, Dr Vearncombe was general manager of geology for Mercator Gold (now ECR Minerals) and non-executive director of Straits Resources.
In December 2012, Dr Vearncombe established Effective Investments which provides exploration and mining opportunities in the Iberian Peninsula to international companies.
She was chair of the Western Australian branch of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG). Dr Vearncombe holds a Bachelor of Social Science and Master of Science (Hons) degrees from the University of Waikato, New Zealand and a Doctorate in Economic Geology from the University of Western Australia.
