Sean L'Estrange was appointed WA's Shadow Minister for Corrective Services and Housing under Liza Harvey's Shadow Cabinet in 2019. He took on the portfolios for Emergency Services, Defence Issues and Racing & Gaming (and losing Housing) in the cabinet reshuffle of February 2020; and became Shadow Treasurer (and losing Racing & Gaming) in December 2020 following the impending retirement of Dean Nalder.
Mr L'Estrange was the Liberal Party Member of the Western Australia Legislative Assembly for Churchlands from 2013 until he lost his seat at the 2021 state election. In the March 2016 cabinet reshuffle, under the Barnett-Liberal government, he was appointed Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Minister for Small Business; and Minister for Finance.
For six years prior to entering politics, Mr L'Estrange established and operated a leadership and management consulting business which specialised in strategic planning, business resilience and recovery planning, and leadership development. He worked with large resources sector companies, city and regional businesses, and government departments. Mr L'Estrange also has extensive experience in the Australian Defence Force, as an Infantry Army Officer where he completed full-time (regular) and part-time (reserve) roles, and was Australian Task Force Commander's Operations Analyst to Uruzgan province while serving in Afghanistan. He received many Australian honours and awards for his service in the Army.
Mr L'Estrange holds a Bachelor of Education (majoring in Economics), a Master of Educational Leadership, a Graduate Diploma of Resource Management, a Graduate Diploma of Management (majoring in Defence Studies), and is a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Command and Staff College.
