Nedlands called for Labor

WA Labor appears to have won another seat this afternoon, with candidate Katrina Stratton having taken the lead in the once safe Liberal seat of Nedlands by 1,052 votes.

Liberal MP Bill Marmion, who has held the blue-ribbon seat since 2008, was trailing by 574 votes at this time yesterday, but that margin has since doubled.

The change makes Nedlands the 12th opposition seat to be called by commentators as won by WA Labor at last Saturday's state election, and marks the first time the seat has been held by Labor since its inception more than 90 years ago.

The seat is the second opposition-held seat won by Labor in the past 24 hours, with former Nationals WA leader Terry Redman losing the South West seat he’s held since 2013 to WA Labor candidate Jane Kelsbie yesterday.

Ms Kelsbie received almost 700 more votes than Mr Redman.

The seat of Churchlands now appears to be the last remaining seat in doubt, according to the state's Electoral Commission, with Churchlands MP and Liberal Party WA treasury spokesman Sean L'Estrange 214 votes behind Labor candidate Christine Tonkin.

At the time of publication, about 85 per cent of the vote had been counted.

Currently, WA Labor holds at least 52 seats in the lower house following Saturday night's landslide election win, while the Nationals hold four and the Liberal Party WA just two.
