Scott Bywaters is a certified practising accountant and an experienced strategy and operations consultant. He held senior finance and accounting roles with organisations including Woodside Energy and BHP Billiton Iron Ore before establishing himself as an independent management consultant in 2011, co-founding BaxterLawley (for the Australasian market) in 2013 and founding Matiz Consulting (for foreign emerging markets) in 2015. Mr Bywaters has undertaken an extensive range of projects in the commercial, government and not-for-profit sectors, primarily in the areas of planning, budgeting, reporting and performance measurement. His key strengths are his strategic and commercial focus, problem solving capability with particular focus on business process development and improvement, and substantial people, process and project management experience. Mr Bywaters served on the boards of the Autism Association of Western Australia and the Australian Dance Council (Ausdance WA) and in addition to being a director of CAN, he is also a senior research fellow with Curtin University’s not-for-profit Initiative, chief financial officer of Solais Geoinformatics, a non-executive director of Australia-Cuba Business Council, treasurer of Sensorium Theatre, and a board member of his children’s school. He regularly provides pro-bono support to small organisations and also mentors postgraduate students and social entrepreneurs.
