Rabia Siddique is a human rights and criminal lawyer, retired British Army officer, author, professional speaker, hostage survivor, media commentator & advocate.
Ms Siddique graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts. As a university student, she volunteered for the Aboriginal Legal Services.
Her early career included working in Singapore representing prisoners seeking clemency on death row, and 13 years as a legal officer in the British Army and a terrorism & war crimes Crown Advocate. Since returning to Australia in 2011, Ms Siddique became a legal counsel to the WA Commissioner of Police and the Corruption and Crime Commission.
In 2013, she published her memoir Equal Justice and an Australian/UK feature film based on this memoir is in development.
Ms Siddique's accolade of awards include a Queen's Commendation for her human rights work in Iraq in 2006, runner-up for Australian Woman of the Year UK in 2009, Westpac and the Australian Financial Review's 100 Women of Influence in 2014, state finalist in the Australian of the Year Awards in 2016, and the Professional Speakers Australia Breakthrough Speaker of the Year award in 2017.
