WA appoints monitor for Perth casino
An independent monitor has been appointed to oversee the operation of the Perth casino as the Crown Group works to establish its suitability to hold a casino licence.
Paul Steel has almost 30 years of experience in law enforcement and criminal investigation, including in key leadership roles.
Mr Steel has been the assistant commissioner of the WA Police Force, leading the Intelligence Portfolio and Metropolitan Region portfolio. He also held responsibility for the child sex offender register. In his current role, he has responsibility for counter terrorism and emergency response, state traffic, airwing, water police, mounted police, canine and the tactical response group.
Mr Steel was also an integral part of Western Australia’s successful management of COVID-19 as the leader of Operation Tide, the WA Police Force’s response to the pandemic.
In October 2022, Mr Steel was appointed by the WA government as an independent monitor to oversee Perth casino’s path to remediation to establish fitness in holding a gaming licence, following the Royal Commission Final Report handed down in early 2022.
