Michael Quinlan
Professor Michael Quinlan AO was a reputable identity within Australia’s medical community. He held many placements at health organisations and tertiary institutions across the country including Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians; Professor of Medicine at the University of Notre Dame Australia and Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia; Emeritus Consultant Physician at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital; director of the Medical Teaching Unit at St John of God Hospital, Subiaco; chair of the National Governing Board, St John of God Healthcare; chair of the Foundation Board, St John of God Healthcare; director of the inaugural board of the Sisters of Charity National Governing Board; director of the Feilman Foundation; and WA director at the Child Health Research Foundation.
In 1998, Prof Quinlan was awarded the College Medal by the Royal Australian College of Physicians. In 2002, St John of God Health Care in Subiaco established the Annual Michael Quinlan Oration to honour him.
In 2018, Professor Quinlan was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished services to medicine, particularly through strategic leadership in the development of tertiary medical and social education in Western Australia as an academic and clinician.
He passed away in October 2020 after a brief illness.
