Julian Hanna is a geologist with over 35 years of experience in exploration, project development and mining. He has held senior roles in nickel, copper and gold companies with projects in Australia, Botswana, Canada and Finland.
In 2000, Mr Hanna co-founded nickel company Western Areas and was managing director over a 12-year period when the company discovered and developed two substantial high-grade nickel sulphide deposits, and became one of Australia’s leading underground nickel mining companies. In 2013, he became managing director of MOD Resources and was directly involved in the consolidation of the central Kalahari Copper Belt in Botswana and in the discovery, resource drill-out and initial studies for two large open pit copper deposits. In October 2019, Sandfire Resources acquired MOD Resources and Mr Hanna oversaw the transition of the substantial Botswana assets and in-country exploration team into Sandfire Resources.
Mr Hanna has a Bachelor of Science in Geology, and is a member of AusIMM.
