Ashforth joins Goldman Sachs
Perth dealmaker Michael Ashforth is making a return to investment banking, seven years after he retired from Macquarie Capital to work for ‘rich lister’ Angela Bennett.
John Willinge has experience as both a senior investment professional as well as on the investment committees responsible for public market, venture capital and private equity investments.
Mr Willinge is the founder and chief executive of Alverstoke Group LLC, an investment firm based in New York. Prior to forming Alverstoke in 2005, Mr Willinge was a partner at Thomas Weisel Partners. At the firm, he managed a fund focused on public equity, mezzanine financing, distressed debt and special opportunities. Mr Willinge has also worked at Goldman Sachs and Rothschild Australia's Merchant Banking Division. He was previously affiliated with Tailwind Capital Partners.
Before entering the finance industry, Mr Willinge was an engineer and served on the boards of several public and private companies.
He was selected as a David Rockefeller Fellow with the Partnership for New York City in 2011. He is an Adjunct Professor in Finance and Investment at The University of Western Australia and a Patron of The Hackett Foundation.
Mr Willinge received an MBA from Harvard Business School, a Bachelor of Science from Curtin University's School of Mines, and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia.
