Dr Eric Tan AM is a medical entrepreneur, former surgeon, and former chancellor of Curtin University.
Dr Tan has been a doctor in general practice for over 13 years. After being in private surgical practice, he joined the international healthcare sector to engage in international medical enterprises. His company built the Vietnam International Hospital in Hanoi, and ran a pharmaceutical company in China.
Dr Tan is also engaged in investments in medical science startups in partnership with Australian universities.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr Tan was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for his contribution to the Australian Community and International Relations, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Service to the Country, PJN (Malaysian National Honour with consent from The Australian Governor General), a Centenary Medal for his services to multiculturalism, Citizen of the Year WA for community service, and a John Curtin Medal for Leadership in recognition of his medical & social achievements.
