Dino Otranto has more than 20 years’ experience in the resources sector across operational, technical and financial roles in Australia and internationally.
Mr Otranto joined Fortescue in 2021 as chief operating officer of iron ore and became chief executive of Fortescue Metals in August 2023. In this role, he leads Fortescue’s metals business in the Pilbara while implementing large-scale decarbonisation initiatives and developing a new mining operation in Gabon, Africa.
Prior to that, he spent 3 years in Canada as chief operating officer of Vale Base Metals, leading its North American, European and Asian nickel and copper businesses. He initially joined Vale as chief technology officer.
Mr Otranto began his business career with BHP, where he held management roles at its Worsley Alumina refinery in WA and its Mozal aluminium smelter in Mozambique. He stayed with the business after the spin-off of South32 in 2013, rising to become vice president operations at Worsley Alumina.
Mr Otranto graduated from Curtin University with dual Bachelor degrees in Science and Engineering.
