David Wirrpanda is the patron and director of the Waalitj Foundation, formerly the Wirrpanda Foundation, a highly successful foundation launched in 2005 that is dedicated to improving the life outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children by promoting strong role models and healthy life choices.
He also consults to Perth-based Azure Capital, who has established initiatives to assist deserving community organisations fulfill their charters.
Mr Wirrpanda is a Yorta Yorta Yolngu man from Victoria. He played his first game of AFL for the West Coast Eagles in 1996 and won 2 AFL premierships in 2005 and 2006. He retired at the end of the 2009 season, finishing with 227 games for the club. Mr Wirrpanda also represented Australia in the International Rules Series in 2004.
