Chris Salisbury is a metallurgical engineer with over 30 years of experience spanning iron ore, bauxite, alumina refining, aluminium smelting, coal, port logistics and uranium.
Mr Salisbury was acting chief executive of Rio Tinto’s copper & coal group before becoming chief executive of iron ore in July 2016. In September 2020, he stepped down from the role following shareholder pressure over the company's destruction of Juukan Gorge. Prior to Rio Tinto, Mr Salisbury was chief operating officer of coal with accountability for coal mines in NSW, Queensland and South Africa.
