Carina Tan-Van Baren is an account manager in Cannings Purple’s corporate affairs team and has nearly 30 years of experience in media, communications and commercial law. She began as a journalist at The West Australian, Perth’s daily metropolitan newspaper, holding a number of senior roles over 10 years including as a specialist reporter covering health, education and environmental issues and as a political reporter and chief-of-staff in The West’s Federal Parliament bureau in Canberra. She held government and political roles as a public affairs officer in the Federal Department of Health and Ageing, and as media adviser to the Federal Attorney-General and Minister for Communications and the Arts. Ms Tan-Van Baren worked at Lavan as a commercial solicitor specialising in property law, in particular large-scale land acquisitions, property development, joint ventures and foreign investment. Through her diverse background, she has developed an insight into (and strong working relationships across) the media, government/political and commercial sectors. Her specialist skills include corporate communications, media relations, profile raising, issues and reputation management and stakeholder engagement.
