The Rothwells rescue farce
The second of four extracts from Peter Kennedy’s new book examines the Rothwells rescue and the murky links between WA business and politics.
Barry MacKinnon AM was a Liberal Party politician , a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1977 to 1993, and state leader of the Liberal Party (and Leader of the Opposition) from 1986 to 1992. Mr MacKinnon had served as a minister in the governments of Sir Charles Court and Ray O'Connor. He was Minister for the North-West, Regional Administration, Tourism, and Industrial Development and Commerce from 1982 to 1983. Mr MacKinnon was an accountant prior to entering politics. In 1997, Mr MacKinnon was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services to people with hearing impairments. In 2001, he received a Centenary Medal.
