Wines of Western Australia is the state's peak body representing Western Australian wine producers.
The association represents approximately 90% of wine production in this state, as well as having membership categories for wine distributors, wine grape growers and other affiliated businesses. Its records date back to 1914 when the Association of Australian Wine Merchants and Vignerons Trading in Western Australia was formed.
In 1916, it changed its name to the West Australian Winegrowers’ Association and in 1961 to the Wine and Brandy Producers’ Association of Western Australia. 1982 saw the formation of a new body, the Western Australian Grapegrowers’ and Winemakers’ Association and the amalgamation of these two associations in 1987 formed the Wine Industry Association of Western Australia. In 2011, the name was changed to simply Wines of Western Australia.
Wines of WA represents and addresses issues specific to the wine industry and its' nine wine growing regions through its key roles of advocacy and government lobbying, marketing activities, issues management and education.
