$1bn power surge approved
A move to lift electricity network costs by nearly 8 per cent annually until 2027 has been approved, six months after the plan was revealed by Business News.
Western Power is a Western Australian State Government owned corporation which builds, maintains and operates the electricity network in the south west corner of Western Australia. The Western Power Network forms the vast majority of the South West Interconnected Network (SWIN), which together with all of the electricity generators, comprises the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).
Western Power Corporation (WPC), owned by the Government of Western Australia, was Western Australia's major electricity supplier from 1995 through 2006. It was formed in 1995 when the monopoly electricity and gas supplier, the State Energy Commission of Western Australia, was disaggregated into separate suppliers for gas, AlintaGas, and for electricity Western Power Corp.
In 2006, Western Power Corp was disaggregated into Western Power, Synergy, Horizon Power and Verve Energy.
