The Market (MKT, formerly The Market Herald) is a listed company that owns an online chat forum (HotCopper) for stock market investors and has expanded into other media products, most notably breaking investor news and luxury marketing platform The Market Herald which is now known as The Market Online. It also owns Gumtree Group and Stockhouse.
The underlying business was established in Perth by Ron Gully in 1994 and listed on the ASX in 1999, before being acquired by Bourse Data. It was reacquired by private investors in 2004, including CPS Capital Group director Tony Cunningham.
In September 2016, it became listed on the ASX via HotCopper Holdings, which acquired all of the shares in the chat forum’s private owner, Report Card Pty Ltd.
In June 2020, the company changed its name to The Market Herald to reflect a change in focus from the HotCopper site to the new TMH news service. It then changed its name to The Market Limited in November 2023 to align with its recent transition to being an online marketplace owner.
