Santanol is a privately-owned Indian sandalwood producer in the Kimberley region of WA which manages about 2500 hectares of plantations. It was founded by Bob Bunning, Tony Jack, Bruce Mattinson, Sharmane Mattinson and Prof Bernie Dell in 2005.
In 2013, it acquired Elders’ (formerly ITC’s) 2000 hectares of sandalwood plantations. Global private equity player KKR took a major shareholding in 2013, ahead of preparations for its first harvest and entry into the global market.
The business - often referred to as Santanol Group - operates primarily through the companies Alpha Santanol and Beta Santanol. The entity Santanol Pty Ltd represents the private investors in Alpha and Beta.
Since 2019 Santanol has been a part of the global forest products group Mercer International Inc.
