Founded in 2000 as Sweeney’s Mechanical Services, SMS Mining Services today has the capability to deliver fleet rental, repairs, maintenance and contract mining services. Its original focus was maintenance, refurbishment, sales and service support for heavy duty earthmoving. In 2007, rental hire services were added to the portfolio and the company’s name changed to SMS Rental, before evolving to SMS Innovative Mining Solutions.
In 2016, the contract mining division was formed to deliver an end-to-end service offering to the surface mining sector. To reflect this capability, whilst maintaining the legal entity SMS Innovative Mining Solutions Pty Ltd, the company began trading as SMS Mining Services in 2018.
