Rosewood Care Group is one of Western Australia’s oldest residential and community providers. The organisation has two facilities, centrally located in West Perth and Leederville.
The history of Rosewood Care Group can be traced back to 1953, when Florence Hummerston, a City of Perth Councillor, was declared the president of a committee that became the League of Home Help for the Sick and Aged. In 1954 the League commenced Meals On Wheels in WA, with the first meals being prepared in the kitchen of Royal Perth Hospital. It operated out of various properties in West Perth. In 1960 The League of Home Help for the Sick and Aged took over the running of the Margaret Henderson Home in Victoria Park, a home for seven elderly women.
In 1963 the property at 61 Cleaver Street was purchased, and the provision of residential care in Cleaver Street began. This was followed by the purchase of 71 Cleaver Street in 1969 to provide further accommodation for the aged. Around this time, the site at Britannia Road in Leederville was secured and the 34 room home constructed and completed by mid 1972.
It was renamed the Rosewood Care Group in 2002 to better reflect its focus on the provision of residential aged care only.
