RCT (formerly Remote Control Technologies) is a technology-focused company servicing the global mining industry. It has a team of more than 200 people working with clients in over 70 countries, from Australia to Africa, Asia, Russia, North America and Latin America. RCT is a global leader in smart guidance, teleremote and remote control automation solutions.
It originated in 1972 when founder and executive director Bob Muirhead was a young electrical fitter working in Kalgoorlie. He designed a fail-safe engine protection system (now known as Muirhead®) that would improve the reliability of underground mine equipment. In 1987, his company Muirhead Electrical joined with two other local mine supply businesses and formed a public-listed company, Automotive Industrial Mining Supplies.
In 2002, Mr Muirhead structured a private investor group to enable private ownership of the company Remote Control Technologies, which rebranded as RCT in 2015.
