In 2016 LOD (Lawyers on Demand) and AdventBalance announced their merger. Lawyers on Demand was the UK's first flexible legal service, founded in 2007. AdventBalance was formed by the 2012 merger of Perth-based Balance Legal, and the Sydney-based Advent Lawyers, which were both founded in 2008; Balance by Ken Jagger, and Advent by John Knox. In the years that followed AdventBalance expanded into Asia attracting international attention that culminated with its merger with LOD. LOD, Advent, and Balance all were created as firms based on a 'disruptive' 'NewLaw' paradigm operating as fixed-fee, secondment law firms that provide an alternative to traditional legal services. At the time of the merger the combined firm had 600 lawyers in seven offices: London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Singapore, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth.
