Perth-managed private equity group Ibaera Capital is focused on investing in emerging copper and gold exploration and development stage projects. It was founded in 2012 by executives from the development teams at Fortescue Metals Group and WMC Resources. The fund does not operate mines but helps develop projects to be construction ready, chipping in management and technical expertise. The managers of the fund, which is Cayman Island registered, take a counter-cyclical view on investments.
Ibaera has invested around $3 million per year for the past five years into geological and project research, and has a team of 12 geologists.
