The Gaming and Wagering Commission of Western Australia is responsible for administering the law relating to gaming and wagering. It is chaired by the director general of the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries, which provides executive support to the commission.
It is subject to the Gaming and Wagering Commission Act 1987, the Casino Control Act 1984, the Betting Control Act 1954 and the Racing and Wagering Western Australia Act 2003.
Its broad objectives are to approve or withhold approvals of licences and permits, take steps to minimise community harm caused by gambling, and publish information relevant to gambling and its effect on the community.
