ExxonMobil Australia has had a significant role in the development of Australia’s oil and gas resources and has a business history in this country stretching back more than 110 years. ExxonMobil is one of Australia’s largest oil and gas producers. Our activities cover exploration and production of oil and gas, petroleum refining and supply of fuels (including natural gas), lubricants and chemical products.
ExxonMobil is a 25 percent co-venturer in the Gorgon Project, which includes the Gorgon and Jansz-Io fields. The Gorgon Project is working to develop a world class resource, containing in excess of 25 percent of all of Australia's known gas resources, or more than 40 trillion cubic feet.
ExxonMobil subsidiary Esso Australia Resources Pty Ltd is the operator of the Scarborough gas field in the Carnarvon Basin, a 50:50 joint venture with BHP Billiton.
