The Economic Regulation Authority is Western Australia’s independent economic regulator. Its purpose is to benefit all Western Australians by promoting strong economic outcomes through effective regulation and decision making.
The ERA regulates the electricity, gas and rail industries, licenses providers of gas, electricity and water services and has a regulatory and review roles in the Wholesale Electricity Market and retail gas market. The ERA can also conduct inquiries into economic matters referred to them by the Treasurer.
The ERA was established by the state government in January 2004.
