ONE member of last week’s Society of British Gas Industries trade delegation to Perth knew exactly who he wanted to meet.
Advantica Technology principal consultant utility distribution John Tonen headed straight for WA’s gas power players.
Mr Tonen said Advantica already had an office in Sydney and had met with eastern States market majors TXU, AGL and Origin Energy in Melbourne earlier in the week.
He said the planned expansion in the upstream gas sector in WA and the uniqueness of the power market here had attracted Advantica to investigate this side of Australia.
The company is also assessing opportunities out of Beijing.
In Perth, Mr Tonen met with Wesfarmers Energy and AlintaGas.
Each is well-positioned now, and have the capacity and ambition to ensure they dominate WA’s power market for some time.
Advantica also spoke with the State’s dominant gas transporter Epic Energy, which is currently in an unenviable position but also potentially well-placed to play an essential role in the future expansion of the gas power market in WA.
Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA director policy & external relations David Parker said visits such as that by the Society of British Gas Industries provided an opportunity to showcase the value of the WA’s energy sector.
