NATIONAL media buying outfit Mitchell and Partners has added the lucrative Australia Post account to its client list following a nation-wide tender.
It’s understood Australia Post made a corporate-wide decision to put the media buying component of the business out to tender.
The account’s media buying has previously been decentralised at a State level and Australia Post in WA has been buying media through Media Decisions.
Australia Post State communi-cations manager Ian Leggoe said the move to a national media buying outfit would not remove significant income from the local media industry.
“We have been buying through Media Decisions, who then buy through Zenith,” Mr Leggoe said.
“In the future we would buy through a local Mitchell’s office, which will have access to the master media rates. So we’ll still be buying the way we always have.”
Mr Leggoe said the organisation also would continue to work with local agency Braincells for creative services.
It’s understood the change will take effect in early April and local outfit the Media Shop will act as Mitchell and Partners local agent.
“We do have a local agent but it will be serviced mostly from Melbourne in the same way we fly over to South Australia,” Mitchell and Partners media director Candice Cole said
“I think we will still use the Media Shop for on the ground but we get them the discounts through the might of our spend.”
