Shell staff to reapply for jobs

ENERGY giant Shell has asked a number of its Perth-based staff to reapply for their positions next week, as it pushes on with a global restructure to redress a doubling of its cost base since 2004.

The company confirmed that Perth staff members were briefed late last week on the next stage in the restructure program, including the requirement to reapply for existing positions.

It is understood that virtually all staff will have to reapply for their jobs at some stage in the process.

A Shell spokeswoman declined to comment on how many Perth staff had been asked to reapply for their positions, but repeated that there were no job reduction targets.

The latest developments were simply part of "a managed transition process happening right across Shell" that had been under way for four months, she said.

Staff "at all levels" were going through the process, she said.

While thousands of jobs will be cut globally, Shell has identified Australia as a key growth business.
