RENOWNED pianist David Helfgott and flautist Jane Rutter are among some of the famous faces that will be appearing at the Mundaring Weir festival next month.
The festival begins on February 2 and will combine folk, jazz, blues and classical music in a celebration of the musical kind.
Jane Rutter, one of Australia’s busiest flautists, will team up with Mr Helfgott for his 15th appearance at the Mundaring Weir Hotel, and for the first time as a duo.
Ms Rutter started her own brass band at the age of seven and is regarded as somewhat unconventional.
“A lot of classical musicians are a bit boring and I’m interested in new challenges,’ she says.
Ms Rutter will perform with Mr Helfgott on February 22 and 23 at the hotel’s amphitheatre.
Also heading to the festival is The Wrigley Sisters, a fiddle and guitar team from Scotland. The band will play on Saturday February 9.
Another noteworthy event on the 9th is Eve Ensler’s play, which will star Perth actor Vivienne Garret, writer and newspaper columnist Susan Maushart and ABC’s Verity James.
The festival will conclude on Saturday March 16 with The Billie Holiday Music Story and will include some of Perth’s finest performers.
