OSBORNE Park-based distributor of electronic workstations and servers, EDsys Computers, has taken an energy efficient approach to business since it was founded in 1992.
Greg McDougall formed company with a charter to develop an effective hardware and software distribution channel Australia-wide, while staying environmentally friendly.
During the past 16 years, Mr McDougall has grown the company into a leading distributor of peripherals, notebooks, workstations and servers.
In recent times, however, a major issue for the company has been adding value to both the products and services it provides, while creating a platform for resellers to generate a profit.
EDsys spokesperson Gareth Davies said that, to compete in the competitive distribution marketplace, the company has invested heavily in partnering with some of the world's most respected information technology and communications hardware and software manufacturers.
"To ensure we can provide our resellers the best possible service while enabling them the chance to maintain their profit margins, we are focused on our underlying core values," Mr Davies said.
Those values include providing resellers with an extensive range of quality assured products, timely delivery and personalised service, he said,
"To assist our customers we place great importance on volume stock holdings of core products," Mr Davies said.
"This enables us and the resellers to meet their client's needs quickly. EDsys Computers has always been somewhat of a quiet achiever producing up to 1,000 systems per month with approximately 70 per cent OEM (original equipment manufacture) branded to suit our resellers' requirements.
"By branding systems for our resellers we add value and meet the resellers' needs to sell their branded product.
"Through the provision of services such as the web interface, our resellers can quickly see the full range of products we provide along with pricing, stock levels and have the ability to quickly process orders online.
"Resellers can also manage their transaction history from tracking their orders to placing and tracking any warranty jobs."
Mr Davies said being a green company also presented further challenges for EDsys to add value to its clients.
"When engaging with our manufacturing partners we are now discussing the issue of being green, what they have in place to be green and in some cases pushing for them to do more," he said.
The pursuit of energy efficiency recently led to EDsys' recent win in the inaugural Green PC Competition for its energy efficient computer systems.
The company will receive a Toyota Prius Hybrid car for winning the competition, which was measured by power consumption when idle under load in kilowatts an hour.
In March this year, EDsys signed on with Carbon Neutral, which works to collectively educate people in reducing carbon emissions of their current systems.
