Integrated energy company Aviva Corporation Ltd has appointed former Western Power chief Tony Iannello as a non-executive director.
Integrated energy company Aviva Corporation Ltd has appointed former Western Power chief Tony Iannello as a non-executive director.
A managing director and chief executive of Western Power until April 2006, Mr Iannello previously held senior management positions within Bankwest, including as general manager of corporate service and finance, and head of strategic planning.
Mr Iannello said the opportunity for Aviva to create a WA-based energy group had attracted him to the role.
"Aviva Corporation has a team of highly experienced energy specialists and I look forward to working with them to secure WA's future energy requirements in a responsible manner," Mr Iannello said.
Aviva Corporation chairman Peter French said Mr Iannello's appointment was another significant step forward for Aviva, which was building a portfolio of integrated energy assets, including the Coolimba Power project near Eneabba.
The appointment is effective immediately.
Mr Iannello currently holds a number of board positions, including as director of ASX-listed energy company SP Ausnet stapled group of companies, director with the HBF Group and chairman of the Kailis Group.
"Tony has first rate business credentials, and will provide a valuable addition to the Aviva Board as it moves forward in the development of its major energy projects in WA, and in Africa," Mr French said.
"Tony's understanding of the WA energy industry will be of particular value in the development of the 400MW Coolimba Power project in WA's mid west region.
"Tony led Western Power through the transformation from a vertically integrated monopoly supplier of electricity to the formation of four commercially focused, customer oriented successor business entities. This experience will be of immediate value for Aviva and the Coolimba project," Mr French said.
Coolimba Power is Aviva's most advanced project, based on a 400MW, low emission, coal fired power station near Eneabba. The project is due for commissioning in 2012.
Aviva is also investigating the development of a 1,500MW power station in Botswana, where it recently announced a 1.3 billion tonne inferred coal resource.
