IF at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
That’s the advice from leading CD ROM developer Jackie Turnure, who has returned to Perth after nine successful years in the US.
The creator of the children’s CD ROM ‘Oz – The Magical Adventure’ was in town last week to lead a series of seminars at the Film and Television Institute in Fremantle.
Ms Turnure will be producing and directing PC games for Sausage Interactive, a division of Sausage Software.
Ms Turnure had to pitch the idea of an educat-ional game based on L Frank Baum’s book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz several times to children’s publisher Dorling Kindersley before it was accepted.
“We re-pitched the game premise and proposed making the characters junior versions of themselves so that the child would be playing with characters closer to their age,” Ms Turnure said.
“They liked our new proposal and negotiations began in earnest. It took three months to finalise the deal.
“We wanted the game to look and sound amazing, to have a real sense of a narrative, to include activities that were original and challenging and could be replayed for different rewards, ensuring the game’s longevity.”
