Subiaco’s iconic Oriel Brasserie has been forced to push back its planned opening because of what is believed to be delays in getting tradesman and equipment.
Gusto understands that the Subiaco eatery will reopen in the next few weeks. Oriel’s land owner, Chris Chan, had hoped to have the venue open more than a fortnight ago. He told WA Business News three weeks ago that he would operate the business himself and had contracted consultant chef Iain Lawless from My Restaurant Rules fame to put together a kitchen team.
Oriel was forced to shut its doors last year when former leasee Loretta Evangelisti put the business into administration after it was hit with a six-figure tax bill from the Australian Tax Office last year.

Margaret River’s popular Vat 107 is one of the many venues from across Australia featured on a new web-based food program developed by Aussies chefs, Vic Cherikoff and Benjamin Christie. The chefs have developed www.australianfoodtv.com, which is broadcast via internet TV site www.joost.com. One episode on www.australianfoodtv.com showcases Vat 107 as well as recipes for salt and pepper yabbies, paperbark smoked duck with Illawarra plum sauce, ricotta figs with lemon myrtle and macadamia nuts.

Capel Vale Wines has won over the judges at the 2007 International Wine Challenge. It won several awards, including a gold medal for its 2005 Margaret River regional red blend. Howard Park Wines, which had recent success at the prestigious European wine awards, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, won two silver medals at the International Wine Challenge, which is the world’s largest wine competition.
The judges awarded Howard Park’s 2004 Howard Park Leston Shiraz and 2006 riesling with silver medals.
Also taking home either a silver or bronze at the awards were Palandri, Vasse Felix, Stella Bella, Houghton Wines, Forest Hill Wines and Harewood Estate.
