Mader’s global transfer program offers an exciting global pathway for adventurous tradespeople seeking overseas adventures and work flexibility.
Leading global provider of specialist technical services, Mader Group, has taken a different approach to attract and retain skilled tradespeople: giving employees sought-after flexibility and access to adventure through a global transfer program for overseas mining opportunities – and it works.
Since 2009, Mader Group has sent a significant number of tradespeople across the world, to the likes of Africa and Asia, and more recently, North America as it ramps up operations in both the United States and Canada.
Currently, Mader has 70 expats on the ground in Canada through its Global Pathways Initiative with another 30 in the visa process, set to embark on their journey over the coming months.
“We need to be able to give our people the options they want in their career,” Mader Group’s chief executive Justin Nuich said. “Whether it’s different mine sites, different equipment or different countries”.
With Mader’s workforce supporting customers in more than 500 locations globally, the coveted program stretches across four continents. Through internal transfers, employees can make the journey to North America to challenge their technical skills across multiple sites and customers before taking to the slopes and exploring endless natural attractions on their time off.
Meanwhile, those looking to apply their expertise in developing countries, can head to Asia or Africa for an entirely different experience leading maintenance operations and mentoring national workforces.
Tim, a 27-year-old heavy duty diesel mechanic transferred from Mader’s operations in Western Australia to Canada in January.
“My Canadian adventure has been absolutely amazing, and so much of it has outdone expectations. Being on an even time roster has given me a chance to pack up, fuel up and go and check out all that Canada has to offer! I never could have imagined this incredible journey my career has taken me on.
The company provides ‘tap-on, tap-off maintenance’ with well-established operations in many of the major mining regions across the world, and has launched into the provision of mobile and fixed equipment maintenance across multiple industries including emerging sectors including energy, rail, road transport, power generation and marine.
Exciting growth opportunities and flexibility are the two main goals behind the program, open for people with specialised trades in mining maintenance. The program mirrors the goals of employees with itchy feet, seeking new experiences and bigger challenges both on and off the field, while having the freedom to enjoy without compromising their careers.
Workers are increasingly prioritising their work-life balance, according to PwC study. Around half of Australian workers would consider changing jobs in order to access better flexibility.
“We have a lot of talented people who want the opportunity to travel the world but also work, and we’ve been able to offer that. We are excited to be recognised as an employer of choice for any tradesperson with a sense of adventure,” Mr Nuich said.
