NRW, Pacific Energy win Fortescue work

NRW Holdings has secured the crushing plant contract for Fortescue Metals Group’s Cloudbreak operation while Pacific Energy is building a battery storage system for the Pilbara miner.

NRW, through its RCR Mining Technologies subsidiary, will design and build the primary crushing plant (PCP) under a $27.2 million contract.

RCR had delivered the previous Hopper 9 crushing facility at the Cloudbreak mine, which forms part of Fortescue’s Chichester Hub.

The subsidiary is currently building a PCP for Fortescue’s Queens Project (Solomon Hub) under a contract valued at about $80 million.

RCR will complete work under the latest contract with NRW subsidiary Primero Group, acquired earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Pacific Energy subsidiary Contract Power Group will design, build, and commission two battery energy storage systems (BESS) for Fortescue.

The iron ore miner is currently building a transmission network that will distribute electricity from gas and solar power facilities across its Pilbara operations.

The two systems will have combined storage capacity of 13 megawatt hours, with power output of up to 42 megawatts.

Contract's Hybrid Systems Australia will be involved in the rollout, as will internationals Hitachi ABB Power Grids and Kokam.

Meanwhile Fortescue, which announced its quarterly production results on Thursday, closed down 0.2 per cent to trade at $22.58.
